Assistant Professor Of Structural Engineering

Detalles de la oferta

Description

The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Structural Engineering, with a focus in quantitative structural reliability, risk assessment and physics-informed predictive sciences. Emphasis is placed on uncertainty quantification analysis to support the integration of technological solutions in structural design and enhance community resilience of civil infrastructure systems against both single and cascading hazards.
Resilient, smart and connected communities must consider the interaction among risk/uncertainty management and physics-based modeling, and performance optimization over complex interdisciplinary multi-objectives, including human factors, able to address future challenges related to climate change and natural hazards, population growth, and optimal life-cycle performance. The future of civil infrastructure systems in the face of evolving hazards may enable cross-campus interdisciplinary collaborations with faculty in other departments and colleges at SDSU.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence and show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, and professional development that could contribute to advancing structural engineering practices and enhance community resilience of systems against both single and cascading hazards, including expertise in: (a) structural reliability and risk assessment seismic analysis; (b) integration of advances in computational modeling and physics-informed analytics; (c) structural assessment with interactive workflows and data-driven rehabilitation processes; (d) hybrid structural testing; (e) performance optimization for complex multi-objective resilient structural systems in light of cascading hazards.
SDSU is a large, diverse, urban university with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence, which embraces the teacher-scholar model. The candidate is expected to instruct and mentor undergraduate as well as graduate students in the classroom and in research.
Since its founding in 1897, SDSU has grown to become a leading public research university, and a federally-designated Hispanic-serving Institution, an Asian American and Native American, Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), as well as Hispanic-Serving Agricultural Colleges and Universities Institution (HSACU). Each year, SDSU provides more than 37,000 students with the opportunity to participate in an academic curriculum distinguished by direct contact with faculty and an international emphasis that prepares them for a global future. In 2024, the university celebrated the milestone of reaching 500,000 alumni with the spring graduating class.
SDSU is the oldest and largest university in San Diego, largest university in the Cal-State University System, and the third largest university in the State of California. It is currently ranked No. 38 among public universities and is in the top 25 nationwide for ethnic diversity, according to U.S. News and World Report. The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering is one of the four departments in the College of Engineering at SDSU with EAC, ABET-accredited B.S. degree programs, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. programs (the latter is offered in conjunction with the University of California, San Diego through the Joint Doctoral Program). SDSU generates more research than any of the other California State universities (measured by funding levels), and is considered a research institution.
