The Department of Biology at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for the Masters of Biotechnology program to teach a Global Immersions Course, BIOT 675: BioSciences Across the Border. A two-unit global immersion course that provides a foundational understanding of today's global enterprise's interconnection between local and global processes. The course addresses the impact different cultures and business practices impose on essential relationships, behaviors, strategies, values, and attitudes when negotiating and conducting business in a global environment. It will include analysis of the environment in which international business operates: multinational enterprises; international trade theory, foreign exchange and international monetary policy, global marketing and R&D.
The course includes four on-campus (or virtual) class meetings and one intensive, immersive week in-country where students will visit a broad variety of local country organizations — from start-ups to large, established corporations, scientific research institutions, industry organizations, government bodies, and social policy organizations— and hear from business executives, industry workers, policy makers, opinion leaders and entrepreneurs.
Course Description
Exposes students to the needs of participating in today's global life science enterprise, including the interconnection between local and global processes. Addresses the need for understanding cultures and practices of other countries that impact essential relations, behavior, strategies, values, and attitudes to negotiate and conduct international relations.
Minimum qualifications:
A Master of Science degree and experience teaching, or equivalent practical experience in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data
Communication and Presentation Skills
Course Design (can design a well-structured syllabus, select appropriate course materials, and can incorporate fundamental tools and techniques used to study protein structure and function)
Continuous Learning and Adaptability (commitment to staying update with latest research techniques and developments).

Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data theory and practice including related to applications in the life science industry, the tools and technologies, challenges, and ethical issues such as data privacy and security, deep fakes and misinformation.

Preferred qualifications:
A doctorate in Molecular Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent and/or equivalent industry experience
Experience teaching or mentoring students/employees in topics related to artificial intelligence and big data to enable high-throughput screening of compounds, real time monitoring and analysis, and/or applications related to molecular diagnostics, predictive analytics, process optimizations, imaging, quality control, etc…
Industry Experience in big data and artificial intelligence
Curriculum development experience
Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:$2,146 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
CSU Classification Salary Range:$2,146 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
